It was a cold weekend for the Balcomb Trophy as our lads made the trek to Redcar to try and repeat last years qualification even if the format has been changed. A hard fought 18-6 win over Cumbria was followed by a disappointing 21-3 loss to host county Yorkshire. The final game of day 1 saw the lads whitewash Lancashire 24-0 to leave us the clubhouse overnight leaders however with only one game on day two nothing less that a win would keep the hopes alive.
Day 2 was again very cold and with our only game against Northumberland first up the lads needed a win, sadly it was not to be as we wilted away in the cold and to be fair from half way the writing was on the wall as the lads slumped to a 21-3 loss.
So that was that even if we were still top, in the final round of games the host county Yorkshire lost the battle of the roses which allowed Northumberland to gate crash the party as they beat Cumbria 18-6 and secure there spot at Leamington Spa in August
